He was one of seven children and his father was a police officer. As a young man, Money worked as a stockbroker before finding his true calling as a musician. He released his first album in 1977 and it included the hit singles “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise”.

His next album, “Life for the Taking”, was released in 1978 and featured the song “Maybe I’m a Fool”. Money continued to release albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s including such hits as “Take Me Home Tonight”, “I Wanna Go Back”, and “Shakin”. In 1986 he appeared in an episode of Miami Vice playing himself.

In recent years, Money had been battling health problems including heart valve surgery in 2009 and lung cancer in 2017. He is survived by his wife Laurie Mahoney and their four children Zachary, Jessica, Desmond, and Johan.

In 1986, he appeared in an episode of Miami Vice and also starred in his own reality TV show called Real Money which aired on AXS TV from 2002-2008. In recent years, Money had been battling health issues including heart valve surgery in 2009 and pneumonia in 2011.

In August 2019, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer and had only months to live. He died surrounded by his family on September 13th, 2019 at the age of 70.

The following year he released his autobiography titled Can’t Hold Back which detailed his struggles with drug addiction prior to his surgery. In 1991, he returned with the album Right Here which contained the hit singles “(We Should Be) Lovers Again” and “Peace In Our Time”. However sales of subsequent albums have been disappointing compared to his earlier releases leading some commentators to declare that Eddie Money’s musical career is effectively over.
